Call of Duty: Black Ops II manages to be a very popular title and has sold over $500 million worth in copies on launch day worldwide, although some people are finding it difficult to load and play, literally.
For some reason, the PS3 version keeps freezing and requires a reset in the middle of gameplay, and some gamers have even reported that the console itself has been known to crash outright. There doesn’t seem to be a specific part of the game that causes this, with a few gamers unable to get past the initial loading screen, but majority of the affected players say they experience it more often while entering a lobby in online multiplayer. The PS3 model doesn’t seem to matter either- while a lot of the complaints say they have an original launch or “fat” unit, the PS3 Slim model is also being affected, so it may not a problem with the console itself.
Activision was aware of this problem and managed to push out patch, 1.03, on November 17 to fix the issue. It installs automatically when someone boots Black Ops II and goes online, making it a simple download.
However, it seems like some are still experiencing the troublesome freezing and systems shutdown, which is baffling. Nevertheless, the game’s publisher is already working on another fix, which may come in the form of another downloaded patch. Hopefully this much-needed Patch 1.04 comes soon, as despite the monumental success of the game’s opening day, sales wont matter much if people aren’t able to play the game.
